I feel like I am running so behind on this blog. Both school and work have picked up so much for me in the last few weeks. I probably have at least 7 unfinished drafts in my WordPress just waiting for me to finish and post. So thats one of the reasons I am happy to be on break-I finally have some time to sit down and focus on something I love to do. Currently, I’m sitting in my old high school sweatpants on my couch with my new dog, Sadie, watching Elf. My parents are finishing up the dishes in the kitchen and my brothers are somewhere else in the house, napping for the third time today. My Oma and Tante Helga are here for Thanksgiving today and they are both hilarious and wonderful cooks. This morning, my brothers and I ran a 5K and let me tell you…I suck. Like both of my brothers beat me by at least 6 minutes. But hey, at least I did it. Then I got to take nap #1. After that we ate Thanksgiving “dinner” at like 2:30 p.m. and then nap #2. We’re a big napping family if you didn’t already pick up on that. Later tonight I’m going to go see some of my best friends and then hit up the mall for some Black Friday shopping. So as I’m sitting here watching this holiday classic, I figured I would knock out a post about what I’m thankful for.
God and My Faith: Recently I have have been really trying really hard to dive back into my faith, because for a long time (and for some unfortunate reasons) I really wasn’t interested in having any sort of relationship with God. But after a friend, who I used to consider an enemy, reached out to me and asked me to go to a Bible study with her, I feel like I’m stepping in the right direction as far as having a good relationship with God again. I have yet to mention anything religious on this blog yet, but as far as things I’m thankful for, I wanted to start this list off by saying I am so thankful for God and everything He does for me and those around me. He is the reason I have everything that follows on this list.
Family: Getting to see my brothers and parents as often as I do is a true blessing. I know I’m extremely lucky to be so close with my brothers so that when we hang out, its because we want to, not because we have to. This is also an appreciate sentence for my parents who have helped me so much in the past year with everything. And of course I couldn’t forget our new puppy, Sadie, who is still getting used to life with my family, but is the sweetest thing.
Friends: “AND HERE’S TO MY REAL FRIENDSSS“-Taylor Swift, “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things. Good and loyal friends are hard to come by. So yeah, I am literally so thankful for the wonderful people in my life that I call my friends. I love that when I come home for break, my entire schedule for the week is filled to the brim with plans with them and catching up. I am thankful I can call anyone of them up when I need support or just want to chat. I am thankful I have the opportunity to visit my friends at their schools. I’m thankful to go on weird adventures with them. I’m thankful to be able to see my friends all the time at school and do such spontaneous and wild things with them. I think it’s extremely important to surround yourself with those who support and encourage you to be your best self. I know I’ve got that covered.
Good Health and Good Teeth: After coming back from this double jaw surgery from over the summer, and a long recovery that wasn’t super fun, I’m happy to be where I am in my health and looks. Does that make me sound conceited? I hope not, because it has actually taken a lot of get to where I am right now as far as health and looks. After having to endure this surgery, the swelling, the all liquid diet, the braces and so much more, it finally feels like that chapter of my life has been closed. I just got my braces off, which feels like the last obstacle from the jaw surgery was passed. I feel like some people take their health for granted, and I do not want to be that person this year.
Being Busy: Not only am I thankful for being about to go to a university and further my knowledge, I am also thankful to have a job that I love. This semester has been absolutely crazy and I feel like I am constantly running around and doing something for class, work, a club, a honor society…but I never want to forget what a privilege it is to be able to go to college and work towards a degree in something I love. So even when I am running around like a bat out of hell or have a completely full planner, I am thankful that I have so much in my life that keeps me busy.
Freedom: Lately I have been truly reveling in how young I am and how many doors are open to me. I graduate in May and for a lot of people, that is really terrifying. Look, I definitely do not have it all figured out. But that is also really exciting to me. I feel as though I don’t have anything holding me back from doing what I want. That sounds ambitious, but I really do feel that I have so many freedoms that allow me to do what I want and be who I want. This involves going to church when I want, reading what I want, traveling when I want, wearing what I want and of course, sharing all of this on my blog with you, because I want to.
