It’s hard to believe that Christmas is quickly approaching, especially when I am drowning in school work. I still have to get through a group project, final presentation, final exam and a bunch more assignments before I can focus on all the wonderful things I’m about to talk about in this post. I’m sure a bunch of you are already in Winter Break, and personally, I could use something to look forward to in order to get me through finals. So here are my favorite things about the Christmas season:
Christmas Lights: String lights are probably one of my favorite things in this world. I love twinkly lights and the contrast between them and darkness (ooo symbolism). So naturally you can understand why I love light decorations and light shows during Christmas. In my hometown, there are a bunch of houses that go all out (and you know the ones after years of passing them by) and there is also the Symphony of Lights where you drive around this park and see all these automated lights. I really hope I can go back to Miracle on 34th Street in Baltimore again this year!
Starbucks Holiday Drinks: Is this too basic for you? Did I lose your interest just now? Does it really matter? More importantly…have you have tried a Starbucks holiday drink? I’m pretty sure trying a Caramel Brulee Latte when I was 14 is the reason I started loving coffee as much as a I do now. Especially during finals when I am running on E and I need my caffeine boosts, these drinks are heaven sent. I will be so sad when they are taken off the menu.
Christmas Eve Service: I have been going to the same church with my family since I was born. Every year, my parents and I will be ushers at the Christmas eve service. It is wonderful to be able to greet everyone and help our congregation set everything up. Its also great to see everyone that I grew up with at church, including the kids I used to babysit. My favorite thing is when we light the candles and sing “Silent Night”. Its so beautiful and peaceful. Plus, it never hurts to remember the reason for the season.
Candles: This could count as a year round thing, but there is just something about the holiday themed candles that really make me feel in the holiday spirit. I have spent so much money on Yankee Candles and have scattered them all over my house. The ones that smell light cranberry and pine are amazing.
Christmas Cookies: Fun fact- my mom and her two best friends from high school have a yearly cookie bake-off where they will literally make over 500 cookies (#friendgoals). So my house is always accustomed to having a ton of cookies to munch on. I love the peanut butter cookies with the Hershey Kisses in them and Belly Buttons!
Ugly Christmas Sweaters: Are they even considered ugly anymore? I find them hilarious and the best part is, I got all of my ugly Christmas from my mom. She finds them at yard sales and gives them to me so I know they’re authentically “ugly”. There are always office parties or get togethers that are themed “ugly Christmas sweater” and I love seeing what everyone wears.
Christmas Movies: So it turns out my house at school does not get FreeForm’s 25 Days of Christmas because my roommates and I opted for the cheaper cable plan…and I am truly crushed. If I could, I would watch every single 25 Days of Christmas movie all day, everyday. There are so many holiday classics that remind me of my childhood and always put me in a good mood. My personal favorite is the live action “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, but my family and I love to watch “A Charlie Brown Christmas” together. Does anyone have suggestions on how I can watch all of my favorite Christmas movies this month?
Pajamas: I probably have too many onesies and pajamas, but then again…do you ever really have enough? I got this hilarious red and white striped J.Crew onesie from a second hand store last year because it was a great deal and my friends were like “no you’re not”…so I had to. One of my best friends, Kayla, and I always have a onesie party where we bake cookies and she got me this great Koala onesie last year for Christmas. I have been thinking about getting a matching set for this upcoming Christmas Eve, just to mix things up. I listed some great holiday pajamas (ideal for Christmas morning) below!
