This semester has been incredibly busy and crazy for me. One of the main reasons for this was being in my first student film. It is called “Deliriums” and it was for a Moving Making class that I’m not actually in. I auditioned for it and surprisingly got one of the main roles! I wanted to be a part of this movie because I used to do theatre in high school and really missed acting and playing a role different from myself. The picture above is from the premiere a few days ago where I watched the movie for the first time. It was so weird seeing the scenes that I did over and over and over again all come together in the final product. I’ll admit I was a little shy when I was on scene because I can be pretty critical of myself. Overall, I am so happy I was a part of this movie and I wanted to share that on my blog!
Here are a few screenshots of my scenes in the movie. It was 45 minutes long and took us 15 weeks to film and edit. I don’t want to spoil the movie because I’ll probably post a link to show my friends eventually, but I play a girl named Val who works in a hardware store in a small town in Missouri. There is a string of murders happening in our town and my friend and co-worker, Gus, really wants to figure out who is doing it. The movie had a really great twist at the end and it was so much fun to watch and be in.
I learned so much from this experience. Although I am a communication arts major, I have never scene the “behind the scenes” parts of a production or had any clue on how a movie was made. The camera was super intimidating, complicated and expensive. We had to figure out so much regarding lighting and sound. Finding locations was one of the most challenging aspects because we weren’t allowed in a lot of public places. I never knew that in movies, you do the same scene over and over again from different angles to capture more shots. That was tedious. It was also funny because halfway through filming, I got my braces off so there were some continuity errors that a few people noticed. This film had me, the other cast members and crew staying out until 3 am in the freezing cold for multiple nights. But as much hard work as this entire experience was, I am really proud of the film and of my cast and crew. I’m glad I was a part of it and even more glad I wore my Great Aunt’s faux fur coat to the premiere. Here are a few pictures from the premiere:
