This time of year is always full of so many anniversaries for me! It’s been a year since I graduated, a year since my cruise (and almost getting taken), a year since I started my first full time job, 2 years since my surgery and now 2 years since I started this blog! (That was a lot of anniversaries…but you get the point…life comes at you fast.) I always like to celebrate my jaw surgery but I realized the other day that I haven’t actually made a post about when I started my blog! My blog and my jaw surgery really go hand in hand because I made “Kimbermoose” when I was in recovery. I was so bored at the time! And I had wanted to start a blog for years, but never had that amount of free time before. So as a fun little way to celebrate 2 years of my blog, here’s the scoop on how I started and the truth behind a lot of my pictures from my first blog posts. Let’s just say for now, pictures can be very misleading to an actual situation.
Flashback to the Spring of 2017. I was a junior in college and finally decided I was going to start a blog. For my first post, Allison and I went to this taco stand 1.5 hours away from Salisbury during finals week. This was a really interesting time in my life because it was right before my surgery where I was eating total garbage (because I knew I was about to be on an all liquid diet for 6 weeks) and it was the end of the school year. So we took all these pictures with my DSLR and people stared at us and I didn’t know how to pose but it was my first post! Here’s the link. I wish I could go back to this place but now they sell bananas????
Then my surgery happened and I spent a lot of time at home, drinking out of a syringe and taking a lot of naps. You can find more posts about my jaw surgery here. I remember doing a ton of research on Pinterest and looking on some of my favorite blogger’s advice (like here and here) to figure out where to start. I even had my twin brother try to help me format my blog, even though he has no website experience. He is an aerospace engineer so I thought he may have some idea…idk. I totally recommend doing some research and checking out what other bloggers do to help get you started. It was a lot at first to buy my domain and set up WordPress and Bluehost, but eventually I got to the point where everything was up and running.
Fun fact: While I was setting up my site, my credit card information got stolen! I got a call from my bank and they were like “Did you buy $82 worth of Panda Kitchen in DC yesterday?” And I was like NO I CAN’T EVEN EAT. So I was so mad because I was on an all liquid diet at the time and SOMEONE WAS EATING BETTER THAN I WAS AND HAVING A BETTER TIME THAN ME WITH MY OWN MONEY. Wild.
During my recovery I had a lot of wonderful friends who would come visit me and spend time with me. For instance, my friends Peyton and Meera were willing to take blog photos of me in some outfits I just got from either the thrift store or online. However I was HELLA swollen in these pictures so I would cover my face with my hair or crop my photos below the neck. Looking back, I think its both hilarious and super creative. JAW SURGERY COULDN’T STOP ME. Here are some comparison pictures of what I posted vs. how I actually looked.
Here is the blog for this scallop outfit!
Here’s the post for my blue dress (I wore it to Allison’s mom’s wedding and a bunch of formals) It’s still available at Lulu’s!
Here’s the blog post for this striped outfit.
Overall, I am really proud of how far this little blog has come! Life has changed so much in the past 2 years but I have been able to keep up with this blog and grow it! I always like to think its always a work in progress and I can continue to expand and try new things. I have a lot of goals I hope to accomplish with this blog in the next year-let’s see how it goes!
So that is basically how I got started and some of my first posts! I really just wanted to share some of these post surgery blogging pics, because they are amazing. I feel like this was also a great post to show you that social media and blogging are not always what they appear to be.
If you want me to go into more detail on how I set up my blog and how I make posts, comment below!
And if you’ve been with me since the beginning, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Thanks for reading! xx
