I am so used to always making goals for myself every December for the new year and every September for the school year. I like new beginnings and excuses to make lists and focus on bettering myself. But since I’m not in school this year and I’ve just been working for the entire summer, nothing is changing. I’m not going back to school, taking classes, living anywhere else. I’m just doing the same stuff I’ve been doing. So it seems redundant to make ‘resolutions’ when there are only 4 months left in the year. But then I was thinking about that quote for F. Scott Fitzgerald that goes:
“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you find you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start over again.”
F. Scott Fitzgerald
And that may seem a little deep for this blog post but it’s always been one of my favorite quotes. You can literally turn your life around at any minute and I think that you can make little changes every day that can have a big impact. I’m not the best at resolutions but I’m hoping that just by speaking all of these into existence that I will be more accountable. And by thinking about the length of a school year rather than just the next few months makes me feel like I can actually see more positive changes and more time to work on these things. So here are my goals for my not-school year:
Develop a skin care routine: I’ll be honest, I am so lazy with my skin just because I was on Accutane when I was 18. Now that I don’t get acne I just do the bare minimum. A lot of times I forget to even wash my face after a night out (I know…terrifying). I have been trying to use more Vitamin E oil and Tea Tree Oil but because I haven’t seen any immediate changes, I get discouraged and forget to do it. But I’m trying to remind myself that I’m mainly doing this for the sake of my skin later, not now. I am interested in trying eye cream and toner and serum but I really don’t even know where to start. If you have suggestions, let me know!
Going to bed earlier: I have the tendency to take a nap after work and then stay up late and go to bed late and then feel tired the entire next day and want to take a nap after work and then…it’s a never ending cycle. Its something so simple and can really come down to my time management skills so I really want to go to bed earlier. I’ve been tracking my sleep on the app ‘My Sleep Cycle’ which makes it easier to see when I’m getting more sleep and my sleep patterns and what not. Plus it has a very relaxing alarm.
Take my vitamins: I should probably just get a multi-vitamin but when I took them in high school they used to give me headaches. So perhaps just focusing in a few vitamins will help with that. I bought a bunch of vitamins a few months ago when I was having trouble with my eyes and I thought they would help. I bought fish oil, magnesium, iron and B12. I keep forgetting to take them in the morning after I’ve eaten so I’m going to move them to the kitchen in hopes that helps me remember.
Put money in my savings account: I’ve really been slacking on putting money into my savings account for the last few months just because I’ve been going on so many trips. Now I just set up my 401k at work (woo adulting) and I need to start being better about putting a certain amount of money into my savings every paycheck. After all, I’m starting to plan more trips and I need to buy a new laptop and those should take priority over Starbucks or a new dress.
Stop buying things online I can’t return: So I’ve recently had this issue with ordering jeans on Poshmark but not checking the sizing on the brand (turns out Levi’s run small) and I can’t return them. I was also taking advantage of a bunch of summer sales with items that cannot be returned but didn’t end up looking good. That has to stop because I have wasted so much money on all of these and the best I can do to fix it is try to resell them (but its usually for lesser value).
Stop skipping OT in the morning: I have gotten so lazy in my workouts! I go to Orange Theory in the morning at 6:05am at least 2 nights a week and I keep waking up at 5:30am and then just rolling back over. Not canceling a class 8 hours before it starts is $12 and that can really add up! Plus, I think I need more discipline when it comes to my workouts.
Plan blog posts more in advance: There have been so many times over the summer when certain holidays have happened (like National S’mores Day and National Lipstick Day) that I could have had so many fun posts for but I was always too late! I need to break out my planner again and plan for shooting days and holidays and the best times for blogs to be posted. I want to be as consistent with my posts as possible and I know planning ahead will help me with that.
