Hey Homecoming Queen
So I have wanted to recreate this out since I saw Kelsea Ballerini in concert last May in Salisbury during the first show of her #MMMTour. This was her opening number outfit and ugh I loved it the second I saw it. I bought these boots 2 years ago for this Halloween costume and am always looking for new reasons to wear them. Kelsea also wore this outfit more recently in her ‘Homecoming Queen?’ music video so I felt it was the perfect time to photograph this outfit. I really love Kelsea’s sense of style and her lyric writing. ‘Homecoming Queen?’ is a really soft country song with some hard-hitting lyrics and that’s what I talk more about below.
So Kelsea has talked a lot about this song in interviews, but I especially like this quote
It’s really about allowing yourself to feel. And that can be happy and that can be sad. Either way, it’s okay. For me, being someone who overshares a lot of their life, I do get scared sometimes to maybe show that I’m having a bad day or show that comments hurt my feelings sometimes. Everyone’s human. It’s important for people to know that we’re all allowed to break down, we’re allowed to have bad days, and we don’t always have thick skin.

So while I decided to make this KimberKopy for fun, I also want to take the chance to really reiterate exactly what Kelsea is saying in the song. I tend to share a lot on this blog, and of course so much of this blog and my Instagram are my ‘highlight reel’. I try to be really transparent on here but there are definitely moments where it feels like the world is crashing down and I try to brush it off or put on a happy face and that only makes it worse. I do think there is strength in vulnerability and I’m learning to embrace the fact that I don’t always have to be okay all the time. Nothing is perfect and no one is fine all the time!
Here’s the music video below in case you haven’t seen it.
So even though this is a bit of a heavy topic, I had a lot of fun recreating this one and I love love love Kelsea Ballerini. So let’s all agree to remember the meaning of this song, but also please try to appreciate this outfit and how much I enjoyed taking these pictures (even though my neighbors totally saw me with my self-timer in front of my garage on a Sunday afternoon in this bright red get-up.) Outfit details and actual pictures of Kelsea’s tour outfit are below!
So fun fact about this outfit: the only things I needed to buy were the corset (Amazon) and the sequin fringe (Etsy). I already had the boots, this blazer used to be my mom’s and I borrowed this dress from Allison. Definitely one of my cheapest KimberKopy’s so that’s awesome.
Here are some pictures of Kelsea in her outfit. I really can’t figure out who her costume designer is for tour, so if anyone has an idea, please share!
Let me know if you like this outfit in the comments below!
Thanks so much for reading! xx
