So this idea was inspired by two of my best friends, Amanda and Alison, who have made it a tradition to go duckpin bowling every November for their birthday. I know as you get older, going out for drinks or for dinner becomes the norm for birthdays. But I really don’t think that has to be the case! So here are 3 ideas for super fun birthday parties for adults (which you know involves alcohol too…)
Bowling:
When you stumbled on this list, you knew this was a give. But trust me when I say drunk bowling is always a fun idea. For my friends’ birthday, we rented a few lanes at the location duck pin bowling. At the one we went to we were even allowed to bring in our own alcohol and food (not every place does this so check before you show up with a 30 pack and some Doritos). Shoes were included and we all got to hang out, catch up and be super competitive about our subpar bowling skills. This has become a tradition for Amanda and Alison’s birthday and we usually go out in Fells Point right after. So whether you use some birthday bowling as a pregame or the main attraction, I would highly recommend. Here is a link to Patterson Bowling Center if you’re local to the Baltimore area.
2. Top Golf:
So I finally went to Top Golf during a recent trip to Dallas to visit Autumn and Seth and I am so obsessed. I am so surprised that I was not totally awful at Top Golf, but I guess that’s what happens when you live on a golf course and practice hitting balls that land in your backyard back onto the green. I have heard of so many people going to Top Golf for bachelor parties, family reunions and birthdays! For 2 hours it ended up being around $35 each for 5 of us, but that price definitely varies depending on where you are, how long you stay and how many people. There is a huge variety of clubs, a big drink and food menu, and a bunch of different games you can play. Last I checked, the closest Top Golf to me is DC but I would totally drive out there because this was so fun. For more info: click here.
3. Axe Throwing:
A bunch of us went axe throwing for my friend Jess’s birthday last month. But I was honestly freaking out before I even got to the axe throwing place because I was so nervous that an axe would bounce back and kill me. But thankfully that never happened! There’s a rubber mat right under the target that absorbs the energy from the axe and tbh it’s not even really an axe, it was more like a small hatchet. I was so awful at first and I was getting so frustrated that none of my axes would strike the board. But after a lot of practice, some anger and the proper technique, I finally got it! And it then was fun. I went to a place in Frederick and was a little pricey at $40 for 2 hours, but it was still worth it. It was BYOB too and we ordered pizza and brought snacks. Of course we signed waivers before we started and got a whole tutorial on how to properly throw an axe. So if you’re nervous like I was, don’t be! Although this was a very loud activity, it was super fun. Here’s the link for the place I went to.
