Something that I’ve recently discovered about quarantine is that I have a new chance to truly dress for my own person style and not for dress codes. Not that my work is super strict anyway, but there are certain things I can wear in quarantine and not in the office (crop tops, distressed jeans, etc). About 6 months ago, my office switched from business casual to jean casual. But even then, I still couldn’t wear a lot of the clothes I own. It turns out this is now officially week 10 of me working from home, so I’ve really had a chance to experiment more with my style and try some new combos in my closet. I don’t know about you, but if I just wear sweatpants and pajamas all day, I get like nothing done. And since the only time I see my coworkers and clients now is on a webcam, I’ve come up with a bunch of new outfits that are comfy, but don’t make me feel like I could go take a nap. I’ve been having fun with this and hope you find some new WFH outfit inspiration (so you can give the sweatpants a break).
Outfit 1: Button-Down & Leggings
This has been my go-to outfit for working from home, mainly because I have recently discovered all of the large button down shirts my brother left behind when he moved out. I’ve already raved how much I love Zella leggings in other posts. I wear these so often and they go with every oversized button-down. I like to wear these low heels while working from home. I have this weird concept of wearing real shoes everyday to make me feel like I’ve left the house. Is that weird?
Outfit 2: Cropped Mom Jeans & Oversized Cardigan
I feel like an off-duty model in this outfit. I think I got this cardigan from my mom and I used to think it was so grandma-y. But when I button it and wear a lace bralette under it, it feels a little more chic. I paired this cardigan with my Levi’s jeans (still too short for me). I don’t normally wear light colored jeans to work because I think they’re a little too casual. My hair just happened to be dirty on this day so I pulled it up in a bun. I have these scrunchies with bows on them that I like to throw on to hide the fact my hair is dirty.
Outfit 3: Pattern Blazer & Black Joggers
This outfit is basically pajamas with a blazer. I wouldn’t be able to wear these joggers to work because they’re a little too baggy. But this outfit is ideal for my Zoom calls. And then at the end of the day, I can just ditch the blazer, throw on some slippers and then I’m ready for my post work nap. No bra required. Fun fact about this blazer: this was the first ‘big girl’ purchase I made after accepting my first full time job.
Outfit 4: Henly Top & Pattern Joggers
This outfit may seem weird at first, but this has actually been a pretty consistent look for me during quarantine. A basic white top that I normally wear to work anyway, but paired with these soft and pattern joggers, is comfortable but also looks pretty professional (at least on a webcam).
Outfit 5: Crop Top & Midi Skirt
I originally got this skirt from Princess Polly last fall and it has become a personal favorite for work. I normally have to pair a sweater or long shirt with it, but since I’m home I can wear a crop top. Long midi skirts have become my ‘lazy day’ outfit because I can literally just throw it on (no wiggling into pants) and wear whatever top I want. Sometimes I look a little Victorian or Amish… but there are some days when I just think “hey, who am I trying to impress?”
Outfit 6: Cardigan, Cami & High Waisted Jeans
I would honestly wear this outfit anywhere. To me, this is more casual rather than business casual, but it still works as a great WFH look. Also you totally don’t need a bra with this outfit, which screams “working from home”. Squeezing into skinny jeans usually means I mean business, so this is pretty regular work outfit for me. The cardigan is what relaxes this look the most, so its not the best for Zoom calls. But these cap toe heels are my favorite shoes to wear and help me keep motivated.
Outfit 7: Linen Pants & Sleeveless Sweater
This has to be the chicest look on here. I’ve seen a lot of wide leg pants and a sleeveless sweater photos on Pinterest, so I was definitely inspired by those for this look. If I was in the office I wouldn’t be able to wear this cropped, sleeveless sweater without a cardigan or blazer, so I’m glad I can try this outfit out now. Bonus points if you go all neutral!
Outfit 8: Distressed Jeans & Puff Sleeve Top
This is probably my favorite outfit on here. I bought this top from Ann Taylor literally right before I started working from home. It never got to see the office! But on the bright side, I can pair it with my favorite distressed jeans which is very much my style. I’m big into the puff sleeves trend right now. Probably why I made this outfit the featured image for this post.
Outfit 9: Capri Work Pants & Fun Sweater
So truthfully, I could totally wear this outfit to work. I’m including it in this post because it is surprisingly comfortable. These work pants are soft and stretchy but also pair well with a button down or blazer. I highly recommend them for your business casual wardrobe. I got this sweater from Poshmark and was just really excited to wear it. I know spring is here and so is nicer weather. But I know I get pretty cold with the AC in my office (and there have been some chilly days in Maryland lately), so there’s no shame in breaking out the sweaters again. If you have any fun or quirky sweaters that you normally wouldn’t wear to work, now is the time to throw them on.
Outfit 10: Denim dress & Plaid Blazer
I haven’t worn a ton of dresses while working from home, but the other day it was actually super hot outside. So I brought out this J.Crew denim tier dress I got from ThredUp last year and threw this plaid blazer on for my morning Zoom call. Dresses can be a pain sometimes if you’re sitting in a chair all day, but this dress is long enough so that the back of my thighs don’t stick to the chair. I wouldn’t wear this dress to work normally because it is lighter colored denim. But with the fun pattern blazer over it, this is a great video call outfit. And the slides match my blazer, which I think is a nice final touch.
