It’s crazy to think that 1,001 days have already gone by. I have to admit, in the hustle and bustle of life, I forgot about this blog post. Not to mention, for the last three months of this list, we were in a global pandemic. I like to think I could have accomplished a few more things if I wasn’t confined to my house for the last few months. But because it has been 1,001 days, I am concluding this list and moving onto the next. Here is what I have to say about my first 101 Things in 1,001 days challenge.
For those looking for it, here is my original post. I made this list when I was a senior in college. I look back on 2017 and I think about how simple life was back then. That year was so pivotal for me.
I started that list 3 months after my jaw surgery. I had braces, I was a senior in college and I was living in a house with 2 of my best friends. I didn’t know what to expect after college but my senior year of college was probably the most fun year of my life.
When this list ended, I graduated 2 years ago, I’m working a full time job that I love and am currently living at home with my parents during a global pandemic. Who saw that last one coming?
Looking back on those 3 years, I want to think that so much changed, but the truth is the main reason for all of those changes is that I graduated college. So of course my life changed; that’s just a natural part of life. I’m not expecting that drastic of a change in the next 3 years, just because I would still like to be at my same job and living at home to pay off all my student loans and car debt. But who knows?!
Priorities change. Goals change. Overall ambition can change, even in a short amount of time. As time went on after I made my first list, I realized I was a little too ambitious with some of my travel goals. I’m actually also a little too cheap to want to spend money on things (like a professional cooking class or surfing lesson). By the time 2020 had rolled around, I didn’t complete a bunch of things because I had lost interest in them. So perhaps I need to strike the iron while it’s hot and get most of the new things on my list done by 2021.
I really surprised myself with some of the things that I did on my list like visit Taylor in China, go on a first date and do something circus-y (that was with Peyton in Chicago). But I also let myself down in other ways like not taking a cooking class or donating 101 things to a charity. Those are things I can totally make up for on my next list.
I think my biggest problem with not completing more on this list was that I forgot I even had made this list in the first place. Shoutout to my best friend Kayla for constantly reminding me that this list was a thing and offering to help me cross things off.
I want to think that I could have accomplished more if I wasn’t stuck in my house for the last few months, but I don’t totally believe that. I had over 1,000 days to get all this done, but it’s so much like me to want to cram everything in at the end the night before it’s due.
Here is my new list of 101 things I want to do in 1,001 days. I honestly aimed a little lower with this list because I don’t know what’s going to happen with the Coronavirus and when I will be able to travel and be in large crowds again. Many of these things are wishful thinking for life to go back to normal, but a huge chunk of them also involve things I can do at home or while social distancing.
If you want to make a list of 101 Things to do in 1,001 Days, comment below! I would love to hear about it.
