He only likes her because she’s old. She’s probably like 25!
I’m 25 today! And if you want to know how I feel about that, you should read this post. But if you don’t care and you’re just here for pretty pictures, welcome! Normally for my birthday, I’d have a grand old party with a bunch of my friends, but COVID-19 said nope. So I threw myself a fake birthday party in the house of one of my best friend’s parents. Sound kinda strange? Keep reading if you want the full story.
Last week I was cat sitting for my friend Julia’s parents. I got to hang out with two little kitties (Benny and Bella) and stayed at their house in Frederick for the whole week. Like I mentioned in this post, I love cat sitting because it gives me a small wave of freedom and I can pretend I live on my own. And it was especially nice on the night I decided to take these pictures. There was no one around to judge me! If my mom saw me in this low-cut dress, she would totally judge me. And not only is Julia’s parents’ house gorgeous, it was a perfect setting for this shoot because of the blank white walls, high ceilings and white cabinets in the kitchen. Thanks again to Julia and her parents for letting me hang out with your cats and letting me turn your house into a photo studio. No cats were harmed in the taking of these photos.
What’s more sad? Posting pictures that make it look like I threw a large party during a pandemic (which I didn’t but some people may think so at first glance), or the act staging a fake birthday for myself with no one around for the sake of pictures? I guess it doesn’t really matter because I did do the latter and I am very happy with how these pictures turned out.
The theme for these photos is “glitz-and-glamour/flash-photography/drunk-night-in” birthday party. Is that even an aesthetic? I don’t know but I hope these pictures convey the message. I love the contrast of flash photography at night. Some of these pics look like they were taken on a cheap disposable camera, which is also a vibe I’m a fan of. I also wanted to highlight the little details of a party like balloons on the ceiling, cake smeared on the counter, and blurry candids when someone isn’t looking. The added glitter and sparkle of my outfit make me look much wealthier in these photos than I actually am, which was also a plus. Hope you like them!
I baked this cake specifically for these photos, but was able to enjoy most of it with my brothers the following weekend. They said it was delicious!
I got these balloons from PartyCity and Benny did not like them one bit.
These next 4 pictures turned out so cool! They look like double exposure and that was totally on accident. I faced my camera and tripod towards a blank wall and set a 10 second timer with 8 shots. When I was in front of the camera I kept moving around and swinging my hair and this was the result. I love the 70s disco vibes in these.
Don’t be surprised if you see these photos on Pinterest! That was the whole point. I took all of these with my tripod, DSLR, self-timer and put my camera to the flash setting. I took a couple on my iPhone too. I may have been fumbling around in the dark to take these photos while listening to the “The Morning Toast” but let’s just pretend these were some random shots of a super fun birthday party I totally had.
This dress is from Rent the Runway and I would highly recommend to anyone! It was so fun, sparkly and flattering! For those who are considering renting it, I sized up 1 size and it was perfect. It reminds me of Paris Hilton’s famous birthday dress so of course I had to wear it for these pictures. The jewelry I’m wearing is from an old post I did last year at the Renwick Gallery.
What do you think of my little photoshoot? Let me know in the comments below!
Thanks for reading! xx
