This is a list of gifts I actually made for my friends this year! Since early November I wanted to focus on handmade crafts mainly because I wanted to learn some new skills and I think homemade presents are so personal and sweet. The fruit of my labors, laid out right before you in this post. I am a very creative person and I like to make things with my hands, so this was a fun adventure. I’ve already mailed some of these crafts you’ll see in this post to some friends in far away places. But I know shipping is very delayed right now, so if any of my friends recognize their gifts from this post, no you don’t.
Macrame Coasters:
I have to admit that I am not very skilled at these yet but I’m glad to be learning! I saw a bunch of these on Pinterest and Etsy and decided this would be a fun quarantine craft to try. I got my rope from Amazon and I have been following this video to learn. Once I get the hang of this one, it’s over for you b*tches.
Scrunchies:
I taught myself how to sew scrunchies! They are so easy to make (well, easier than making masks) and I taught myself from Pinterest and Youtube videos. I’ve been trying to use the free fabric my aunt sent me but I did also buy some pink silk fabric from Joann’s the other day. I am in love with how those scrunchies turned out. I’m glad scrunchies are so ‘in’ right now because these were so easy to make and so inexpensive. I come back stronger than a 90’s trend.
Face Masks:
You may remember this post I made over the summer about learning to make masks with my mom. I know the vaccine is starting to be distributed but I’m starting to think masks are still going to be a very important thing for most of 2021. And in an effort to keep my friends and family safe, I want to make sure they all always have a mask to wear. I gave this mask-scrunchie combo in the picture above to my coworker who I’m dog-sitting for this week. Because matching is fun!
Crocheted Scarves:
I learned how to crochet recently! My mom has been crocheting a giant afghan since we went on lockdown back in March, so she taught me one day on a lazy Sunday. I still refer to this Youtube video since I’m not that great at it yet and I never have enough yarn in the same color to make more than a tiny scarf (my mom and dad call them ‘snakes’). But I hope my friends appreciate it. My goal is to be able to crochet blankets by this time next year.
Wine Cork Coasters:
The easiest and most resourceful gift I made! My family drinks a lot of wine and I just found bags and bags of used corks in my garage. I love the look of these coasters and they are so easy to make. You just need a hot glue gun!
