roaring twenties, tossing pennies in the pool
Okay, I have to admit. When I was younger and thought about my twenties…this is not what I pictured. Global pandemic? Still at my parents house? Not a prospect for a relationship in sight? Solid. And to be fair, I know I’m not the only one who’s live expectations have been uprooted because of COVID, but I reserve the right to continue to complain about it. It’s not going to help, but I find this entire thing hilarious because last year I was so excited to enter the 20’s again. As big a Gatsby fan as I am, I wanted champagne filled pools, sparkly dresses and confetti all decade long. But now partying is basically illegal and I can’t hug my friends. And I know we still have 9 more years in this decade but I’m 25 now. Halfway through my twenties! And what do I have to show for it? Just these 1920’s-esque photos I took with Kayla a few days ago. Okay… I can live with that.
Kayla and I took these photos at the Shrine of St. Anthony here in Howard County a few weeks ago. I had this vision for these photos for the lyrics “roaring twenties, tossing pennies” from ‘the 1’ on folklore. I love dressing up like a flapper, and will continue to do so for the next 9 years and beyond. Plus I just cut my hair so it was absolutely necessary I show off the new do with this kind of photoshoot.
I found this dress while thrifting over the summer! I was so excited because it was my size and the sequin detail on the dress reminds me of sand dollars. The beaded fringe and wrap style at the bottom is super fun too. I hope I get to wear this to an actual 1920’s themed party soon. And by soon, I mean… whenever the 20’s can actually start roaring again.
