In honor of Fearless (Taylor’s Version) being released, I wanted to share a Kimberkopy project I did last summer, but never got around to posting. Honestly, the timing for this couldn’t be more perfect since I am just a big ball of nostalgia these days.
I love how for each era, Taylor has a very distinct style that reflects the vibe of the album. I was 13 when the original Fearless dropped in 2008. Back then, Taylor was such a style icon to not just me but every other teenage girl. (We really thought we were something huh?) Last year during quarantine, it became a fun game for me to thrift articles of clothing that Taylor has worn in the past, but in my size. I’m especially proud of this post because of all of the “Taylor Swift Style Exact” items I found online.
Here’s my Fearless Era Candid series. I hope these outfits give you as many flashbacks as the re-recorded songs do.
If you’re new here, I did do a reputation era street style post last year!
Everything I’m wearing in this post was thrifted or something I already owned. I will be linking similar options to these outfits below, but I totally recommend you try thrifting on online stores like Poshmark and thredUp like I did. Better for your wallet and environment! I’m also selling some of these pieces on my Poshmark!
I want to add a small “disclaimer” (if you can even call it that) that I am a size US 10-12. I have a pretty strong guess that Taylor was not that size when she wore all of these outfits. This is not meant to be a “Taylor Swift’s style shown on midsize girl” case study. I’m a firm believer you can wear whatever you want, whenever you want. But I wanted to add this because I know I look nothing like Taylor Swift and I think it’s pretty bold of myself to put a side by side comparison of the two of us on the internet. But I loved putting these outfits together and taking a stroll down memory lane in order to put everything together. And also, when I say “it’s the same dress” I don’t mean the exact same dress straight from Taylor’s closet. I mean the same brand and design, just in my size.
Before we get started, I also have to admit this post is both hilarious and cringe to me. I could not (with a straight face) wear any of these outfits out in public today. They are not my style at all, but that’s me! Of course, the 14 year old version of myself would have geeked to have any of these outfits in her closet. So at least I’m making her proud.
Fearless Era Fashion Trends:
- sparkly headbands
- strapless dresses
- floral sundresses
- brown belts
- oxfords
- pattern tights
- large and loud purses
Outfit #1:
Taylor wore this outfit in May 2009 while performing at BBC radio. So while I’m considering this a candid look, it is also a performance outfit. Here is a post about this outfit from Taylor Swift Style. I have the urge to sing “I like glitter and sparkly dresses…” when I see this dress. I found the exact Shosanna dress in my size and the famous bow headband on Poshmark! I definitely wore something like this back when I was 16 for a high school homecoming. This iconic bow headband used to be sold on Taylor’s website and is very recognizable for the Fearless era. I wore it in this Tiktok that sort of went viral. I am selling this dress on my Poshmark so anyone who is interested! This dress is gorgeous but definitely not my style.

TAYLOR! WHY THE BELT OVER THE FLANNEL?? I honestly laugh every time I look at this outfit because it just screams “late 2000s style” to me. I’m almost positive I saw this look in a Seventeen magazine, praising Taylor for “stepping up a basic flannel look with embellished flats, a trendy belt and a headband”. LMAO. No offense to anyone who still wears flannels like this, but there is a lot going on in this outfit. But you gotta love the 13 on the hand. I thrifted this flannel in my hometown, and thrifted the belt on thredUP. Everything else was stuff I had in my closet already.

This is the same Rebecca Taylor dress she wore back in 2010. I am so proud of myself for recognizing it when I was scrolling through thredUP. Here is a post about this dress from Taylor Swift Style. I feel like a ballerina in this dress and it fit me really well, but it is definitely not my personal style. It was also pretty pricey for just a sundress, but I get there are no price restrictions when you’re Taylor Swift. This is a very signature “Fearless era” outfit to me because we all know much Taylor loved floral sundresses that made her look like a princess.

Okay…can I be honest? This was not her worst look. BUT THAT DAMN BELT!! I remember seeing this outfit in so many magazines that said “steal Taylor Swift’s preppy school-girl style”. While I love the slightly off-the-shoulder white blouse, the socks and belt are a little much for me. Those knee high socks do not work well with my wide calves. I used to have oxfords when I was in high school but I outgrew them. The only reason I bought them in the first place was because Taylor Swift wore them (tends to still be a trend for me). It’s cool that once I bought this belt on thredUp for outfit #2, I already had everything else needed to recreate this look in my closet.

I remember loving this outfit so much when I was 14. But not so much at 24. This outfit both boho and feminine. I’ve always loved Taylor’s ability to make a basic article of clothing look like it was attacked by accessories. Boring t-shirt? Throw a belt on it! And a long necklace! And a sparkly headband! And in case that wasn’t enough, make sure your skirt has a ton of ruffles and your shoes are a totally random color. We get a hint of Taylor’s boho style in this look, which I’ve always enjoyed. Taylor’s skirt is originally Free People, but mine is from J.Crew. I thrifted the skirt from thredUP and had everything else in my closet. I’m selling the skirt on my Poshmark for anyone who is interested!

It is actually pure luck that I stumbled upon this dress on thredUP and recognized it as a dress Taylor wore in like 2010. I mean I’ve seen pictures of Taylor in this dress on Pinterest and Tumblr for years! Here’s a post from Taylor Swift Style. This is such an iconic Fearless era look. I hope people think of this outfit, with the cute little ponytail when they think of Taylor’s style during this time. This dress is a little too girly for my personal style, so I am selling it on Poshmark. But I have to warn you, it fits more like a size 6 than a size 8.
