GOOD MORNING BALTIMOREEEEEEEE
I am so excited to announce I am officially a Baltimore resident. After a few months of looking up apartments, budgeting and saving up some money, I have officially moved out from my parent’s house. After 3 years of living at my home after graduating college, I decided it was finally time to move out. Who saw that coming? Because I certainly didn’t. At least not this soon. As I am typing this now I am currently sitting on my couch in my own apartment! I know I know…I said I was going to hold out a little longer. But sometimes you know… when it’s time to go.
Why Baltimore?
I already knew I wanted to stay in the DMV, but I hated the idea of becoming a resident of Virginia (too much paper work). Plus, D.C. is mega expensive. I also still want to keep my same job, which is based in Howard County. I’ve been working remotely for over a year and will start going back to the office 2-3 times a week in September. I’ve gotten surprisingly good at driving through the city to get from Howard County to Baltimore and even when I have to drive to work, I’ll be going against traffic.
When I first thought of moving out in the near future, Baltimore was not high on my list of cities. I was honestly leaning more towards DC, but then last January, I was house sitting for my brother and his partners here in Baltimore. I had a blast! While I was staying in their house, I had my friend Peyton over and got to show her the town (COVID friendly of course). It really surprised me how well I already knew the city and how easy it was for me to show Peyton around. It was after that particular house-sitting gig that started to consider Baltimore and ended up finding this great place.
There are two things that made drew me to this place: it was in my price range and it was close to where my brother lives. I have always been set on living by myself when I moved out from my parents, but that was also a daunting concept. I needed to be able to afford an apartment on my own, and also wanted to be close to people I knew for safety reasons. I was scouring Zillow for months when I finally looked at this place. I was hoping to move in June, but this place was available as of May 1st and I didn’t want to lose it.
Fun fact: I was actually visiting Autumn and Seth in Texas during the only time the landlord could show the apartment. So I sent my brother and his partners in to check it out and Facetime me in. A little unconventional but it worked out. They have literally been so incredibility generous and helpful during this entire moving process.
A little bit about my place:
- It’s a 1BR 1BH
- My ceilings are 12 ft tall! And I have three 10 ft windows
- My lease says no pets so there will be no furry friends in the near future for me
- My place came half furnished which is nice because I had no furniture to start with
- I live less than a block away from my little brother and his partners, which is cool!
- I also live near a bakery so it smells like fresh baked bread all the time
So Now What?
So I guess this blog is now going to shift gears to be more about interior design and decorating. I really don’t have the eye (yet) for decor and cohesive spaces but I’m working on it! This apartment came half furnished so I have to work with what I have. Now that great for my creative flare, but much less expensive than having to buy all new stuff. I also took a lot of furniture from my parent’s garage to start decorating. So many of my friends and family have given me things they don’t need. I’ve only been actively living in my apartment for a week now because of cat sitting and waiting for my mattress. So I’m still adjusting and figuring out what I need. Of course I would love to share this decorating process with y’all here on the blog and on Instagram. So stick around if you’re into that!
Thanks for reading! xx
