Can you believe I found this lovely Christmas sweatshirt on thredUP for less than $20?! I love wearing obnoxious and quirky holiday clothing during the month of December and I’m constantly on the hunt for secondhand items that are classified as such. Of course- this can be difficult to find. Enter thredUP! I like to think of myself as “skilled in the art of finding great finds on thredUP”. And as an ambassador, I wanted to spread my knowledge. Here are three tips to finding ugly Christmas sweaters on thredUP.
Disclaimer: I am a thredUP ambassador and receive commission for posting about thredUP. I am still a religious thredUP shopper and encourage everyone I know to go check it out. But I did want to be transparent.
You may not realize this about my sweatshirt above, but it has shoulder pads, beads sewed in and 3D ribbons. I’M OBSESSED. The fact that it says “2000” makes it even better. Its a Karen Scott pullover and I stumbled upon it on thredUP a few weeks ago. Here’s how you can find one too.
1. Look at sweaters, tops and jackets/outerwear
First of all, you don’t want to limit yourself to just searching “sweater” on thredUP. It can be a little surprising to me sometimes how thredUP classifies some of their clothing on the site. What I would label as a sweater is sometimes a “top” or “jacket” so keep that in mind. The next two tips are what will help narrow your search.
2. Search for certain brands
I love searching my favorite brands on thredUP because I always find high quality items for a fraction of the price. I’ve noticed over the years that certain brands are well known for ugly Christmas sweaters, so it’s very likely you’ll find one by searching brand. Here are the brands where I’ve struck luck before.
- Karen Scott
- Talbot’s
- Bechamel
- Crystal-Kobe
- Crazy Horse
- Berek
- Lawrence Kazar
3. Search for certain accents
It is this section that I think you will strike gold! I always scroll to “accents” and click “sequins and rhinestones”, “glitter” and “embroidered” to see what they have. Ugly Christmas sweaters tend to have wild embellishments that are usually noted in thredUP. I usually find really fun tops and sweaters by searching for specific accents. You can also search color if you want to stick to the classic red and green, but I’ve also found luck with black and white.
So those are my tips for navigating thredUP and finding ugly Christmas sweaters. Let me know in the comments below if you find something fun!
