So fun fact: I am infamous in my family for being horrible at wrapping presents. But hey!- it’s wrapped isn’t it? You can’t tell what it is…and thats all that matters… right? But last year I got the idea to use some old paper bags to wrap my family’s presents. A few weeks before that, my friend Hannah told me about drying oranges for the holidays and now I am obsessed! I loved being able to use them for my family’s Christmas wrapping. They are so aesthetically pleasing and much more environmentally friendly than buying new wrapping. When I posted the pictures above on my IG last year, my friend Jesse said “this holiday wrapping is the physical embodiment of the album ‘evermore’ and I love that so much! I also love how you probably already have most of these items in your house already. So you won’t have to run out to the store! Here is my take on aesthetically pleasing and sustainable Christmas wrapping.
What You Need:
- Paper Bags (I saved all the bags I got from Whole Foods + Trader Joes)
- Twine (I got mine from Target)
- Dried Orange Slices
- Pine Tree Branches (I stole mine from the back of my parent’s Christmas tree)
- Scissors
- Tape
I can’t possibly teach you how to wrap a present since I already know I’m awful, so here is a link you can follow. What I can tell you is to cut along all the folds of a paper bag and then turn it inside out (so any designs or labels are on the inside). I love giving paper bags a new purpose! I posted on my IG what I did to dry my oranges, but I also followed this link. I’m really just here for the inspiration, not the instruction. Also- Protip: I cut off some small pine branches from the back of my parent’s Christmas tree. I don’t know if they knew that until they opened their presents. But in my defense… they did not notice! So it was fine and really completed the look I was going for.
Let me know in the comments if you use this idea for your Christmas wrapping! Thanks for reading! xx
