Happy (almost) New Year Friends! I love a clean slate. And yes, things don’t magically change at the start of a new year, but I am a very goal oriented person. I like making lists and crossing them off. In the past I used to not make resolutions, but I decided to make a bunch this year because I love the feeling of crossing something off a to-do list. I have a list in my phone titled “2023 is the year I…” where I have been writing down random ideas and thoughts since November. So here is that list with a bit more explanation.
2023 is the I…
- Wear lip liner. Maybe this is also synonymous with learning to be better at make-up but I stand by this simple task. I need to start lining my lips.
- Stop shopping at Amazon. I think this may be the most jarring line in this entire blog. On January 1st I am ending my prime account. I am deleting the app off my phone. Not only do I not get 2-day shipping (because my packages always get stolen), but I keep buying all this useless junk! I am an impulsive Amazon shopper. Not to mention, I really don’t want to give anymore money to Jeff Bezos. If I need to explain why that is, I think perhaps you are reading the wrong blog.
- Am more charitable. I was inspired by two incredible people I look up to for this one: My good friend/big sis Ash and Meghan Markle. Ash told me about her recent volunteer efforts for various organizations, and I was very impressed by Meghan Markle’s work with the UN before she even met Prince Harry. In the past I have been very open on the blog about donating money to organizations that mean a lot to me. But this year I would also like to donate my time.
- Focus on sustainability. Back in 2019 I was very focused on being the most sustainable I could be. I only used reusable cups at Starbucks, I was using shampoo bars and I started my thrifting journey. Some of my sustainable habits ended in 2020 when the world went on lockdown and
- Stop using dating apps. This is more of a mindset change because I don’t even want to think about dating in 2023. I will probably make a separate blog post explaining that thought process, but for now I just want to continue to not download any dating apps. At times I’ve been tempted, but I just don’t feel I am in the correct mindset right now to try to talk to new people or make time for dates and small talk. I successfully met 2 people out in the wild last year, so I guess there is hope for me there.
- Don’t buy any new books for myself. I have an entire bookshelf full of books I haven’t read yet. I also have a working library card, a Kindle Unlimited account and the Libby app. There is no reason I should by spending money on books this year.
- Stop eating at Chick-fil-a. Need I explain further?
- Drive slower. This year, my dad’s cousin and his wife were tragically killed by a reckless driver going wayyyyy over the speed limit. I hate to say this was a wake-up call that I need to drive slower, but it is. I am chronically late and always feel like I can make up time when I drive but the truth is, it’s not worth it. Safety first. I need to drive slower. Period.
- Stop buying Taylor Swift merch. That blonde woman already has enough of my money.
- Don’t buy any t-shirts or sweaters. I have so many! I only wear the same 3! I need to stop!
- Eat more protein. I went for a general physical in September and my doctor said my B-12 was a little low. Since I mainly cook for myself, I don’t eat a lot of meat so I guess I need to amp up the amount of protein on my plate. I also want to add a sidebar to this point to say I want to continue to eat something green with every meal (like I said I was going to do last year).
- Hustle. This year is about making money and saving money. I need to say ‘yes’ to pet sitting and ‘no’ to spontaneous shopping trips. I truly feel like I have so many things so I don’t need to shop for (pretty much) anything, and I was recently reminded that I really enjoy pet sitting. Most of my goals for 2023 involve not buying things (I have a bunch of new rules, most of which are mentioned in this blog post), so I can put that money towards paying off my car and building up my savings.
- Don’t bend over backwards for people who wouldn’t do the same for me. I always try to be so accommodating and flexible for people. I always go out of my way to help people. The sad part is, these same people wouldn’t probably not do the same for me. I would like to be more selfish this year and reinforce my boundaries so I am not always bending over backwards.
What are your intentions for 2023? I would love to know in the comments!
Thanks for reading! xx

Kimberly,
I see so much maturity in your goals. Life experiences help one to focus on what’s truly important. Spelling out even some simple goals creates a mindfulness to ensure successful achievement. I will be sharing some of these goals with you!
