Fun Fact: I just completed my 2023 GoodReads Reading Goal! 60/60 books done on October 18th. I would like to thank my book club and the Libby app for this wonderful achievement. I don’t know how you feel about counting audiobooks for this goal (if you didn’t already guess, I absolutely do) and I’ve been listening to a TON of audiobooks lately while I WFH and go on walks. I must be blessed by the Libby Gods, because most of these audiobooks have been spooky rom com books. What could be better for October? I love spooky season, but I do not like gore or horror. That being said, I wanted to make this post about 10 spooky (not scary) books that you can read this month to really get in the Halloween spirit!
I am including affiliate links for these books, but I highly recommend checking them out at your local library!
- The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna: This was the first “spooky” book I read this season and it really set the tone for the rest of the month. Definitely not my favorite on this list, but I enjoyed it nonetheless!
- The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling: I actually reread this book this year and enjoyed it even more as an audiobook! I love a second chance romance and Rhys and Vivi are so cute.
- The Kiss Curse by Erin Sterling: I think I may have actually liked this one better than the Ex Hex, but apparently that is a rare occurrence. Gywn and Wells have great chemistry and I thought the ending was great!
- Payback’s A Witch by Lana Harper: I’ve wanted to read this book since last year, and it did not disappoint. The first in the series, I found this one to be the most action filled, and Emmy + Talia are an adorable couple.
- From Bad to Cursed by Lana Harper: The second book in this series, I thought Rowan and Isadora were such an unlikely match, but that is truly what makes this book so good.
- Back in a Spell by Lana Harper: I just finished reading this one and it is currently my least favorite in the series (but I still gave it 4 stars). Nina + Morty’s love affair reminds me a lot of the Omegaverse, and reading this book made me so excited for the next book in the series. It almost ends on a cliffhanger.
- In Charm’s Way by Lana Harper: Confession- I haven’t read this one yet since it JUST came out. But I did pick it up from the library this morning and since the rest of the series is great, I wanted to add it to this post.
- My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine: What a delightful surprise of a book! And there is a whole part about Swifites. I finished this book so quickly and thought the ending was perfect. If you want a lighthearted vampire book, this is the one!
- The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston: I see dead people. If you’re in the mood for a charming ghost story, where the FMC can talk to ghosts, be sure to check out this one! I read it last year, but I haven’t seen a lot of people talk about it!
- Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match by Sally Thorne: To wrap up this post, I wanted to include this book that mentions Frankenstein. Now I do have a few icks regarding this book (I think I only gave it 3 stars), but I still think its a good book to read in October. Plus, I had to cover all monsters in this post!
