adorable book tree above not included, but a very cute idea to try!
In the season of giving (and time of recession) DIY gifts are the perfect solution! I am not including pictures of what I have actually made this season, because I don’t want my friends to read this blog and have their Christmas presents surprises spoiled. So shoutout to Pinterest for the help on this post! And feel free to check out this post from 2020.
1. Ornaments
I included a source above about how to make adorable little felt ornaments because I’ve been making those myself this year! I am a very amateur sewer, but these are pretty simple to make and very easy to customize. But I have also made ornaments out of scrap wood and dried oranges! I’ve seen so many great Dollar Tree ideas that replicate boujee Anthropologie ornaments that I would love to try!
2. Keychains
I love keychains! I probably have too many on my actual car keys, but I have no plans of stopping anyway. I’ve been making customized keychains using little disco balls and beads for my friends. You can use whatever you already have on hand, just buy these keyrings from your local craft store.
3. Bookmarks
If you have some left over felt from the ornaments, why not make a little corner bookmark like the one shown above? I also think using paint or watercolors on card stock would make a really beautiful gift for your friend who loves reading.
4. Air-Dry Clay Magnets
I am just now getting into air-dry clay! I’ve seen so many adorable ideas on TikTok on how to make clay rings, egg cartons, Polaroid holders and fridge magnets! I have a ton of little metal magnets that used to live on my fridge (when I had a fridge…when I had my own apartment) so I think I am going to spend some time making and painting some food inspired magnets for my friends. I got my air-dry clay from Target! You’ll also need some paint, super glue and magnets.
5. Collage or Text in a Frame
I love giving frames as gifts! I always thrift the cutest little frames and love giving photos of my friends and family as gifts. But I also thought it would be very cute to make a photo or magazine collage and put it in frame. For my friends who I went to the Eras Tour with, I would really love to make a shadow box for them
6. Baby Tees
I have so much left over fabric scraps from when my mom and I made masks in 2020. I’ve also been trying to work on my sewing skills so this would be a great way for me to practice! These DIY baby tees can be so quirky and very customizable for each of your friends. I am trying to thrift all of my t-shirts.
And as always: please consider shopping at your local small businesses or thrifting gifts this holiday season!
Thanks for reading! xx
