If you couldn’t already tell by my lack of blog posts this month, I have decided not to post any gift guides this holiday season. Try to wipe your tears enough so you can keep reading. As someone who’s love language is quality time, I thought this would be a good blog post to share. Especially since I cannot (with a good conscious) promote shopping right now with the state of the world and state of the economy. I think we all have power in what we buy (and what we don’t buy) so personally, for me, I have been limiting my holiday shopping this season. So with that in mind, I wanted to throw out a few ideas for “experiences” to gift this holiday season.
This post will be “Baltimore-centric” but take it all with a grain of salt and find something similar in your own town!
- Attend a show at the Hippodrome: I just saw Circe de Solei with my friend Kate and it was so enjoyable! I love Broadway shows and it is also such a fun experience to get dressed up and go see a show with the gals. Check out the Hippodrome’s schedule here.
- Go to the Christmas Village Downtown: Kate and I were also able to stop by the adorable Christmas Village in the Inner Harbor (see photo above for reference). There is a ton of great food and gift options, but I definitely recommend NOT going on a weekend. I waited over an hour for a hot chocolate in this cute little mug.
- Take a cooking class: I have always wanted to take a cooking class! Especially since my knife skills are awful. I found a link for a local cooking class in Baltimore, but I am sure there are some in every city.
- Visit Miracle on 34th Street: Totally free and one of my favorite date ideas! This one street in Hampden has every house decorate with different themes and so many different lights. Check out the lights for free and then grab some dinner in Hampden (like I did with a super hot date recently).
- Go to the Aquarium: I love the Baltimore Aquarium so so much and there are always so many fun events happening on a weekly basis there! Plus, it is indoors which means that the weather does not matter art all! Go year round and enjoy all of the amazing exhibits. I personally LOVE the jellyfish.
- Candle making at KSM Candle Co: We love a Baltimore small business and we love DIY projects. I would love to take the girls here to make candles one day! Getting to do an activity together and be able to take something home is such a wonderful gift for the holiday season.
- Go see a comedy show: I recently went to a comedy show at The Port Comedy Club in Fells Point! It just opened and I enjoyed the numerous acts so much. Click here to get tickets.
- Visit a Museum: Whether it is a free museum like the Baltimore Museum of Art and The Walters, or a museum that requires a small entrance fee like The American Visionary Museum, museums are a wonderful thing to do together or solo. If you’re hoping to walk around (not in the freezing cold) and learn something new, check out all the museums your local city has to offer.
- Do a Wine + Sip Class: I’ve done these in Annapolis and Arlington and they are always so fun. It doesn’t matter if you’re artistic or not, you always walk away with some sort of masterpiece (beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right?). If you life near Baltimore, check out this link.
- Go sports! I am a born and raised Ravens fan and we’re currently doing pretty well this season. That means tickets aren’t necessarily ‘cheap’ (and it is chilly out) but if you have a sports fan in your life, consider actually taking them to a game instead of just buying them merch. Pro-tip: if you’re local, people on FB usually sell tickets pretty cheap the week of!
