In an effort to curb my shopping habits, I’ve decided that I want to start tracking my shopping purchases. I already track my outfits everyday, so adding this info to a spreadsheet seems like a no brainer. This series will not include groceries, experiences, food, gas or travel (you know, the necessities). I haven’t done a ton of shopping in 2024 yet (at least, to me), but here are the things I purchases in January and February.
January:
I am whole-heartedly blaming this on my girlfriend, but I am slowly becoming a sneaker girl. This makes sense in the grand scheme of things. I don’t want to say sneakers are a “trend” right now, but I see so many chic and colorful sneakers on IG and Pinterest. Not to mention, one of my goals for 2024 is to wear more comfortable shoes. Walking around in painful shoes is so 2023! So this month I bought this bright red pair of Adidas and this more “neutral” pair of Reebok Club C Grounds UK Sneakers. The red pair has been so fun to wear during Valentine’s Day season and I love matching my red lipstick to it. I have definitely been wearing the Reeboks more often, just because I feel like they go with more of my outfits. I wore these Reeboks pretty much the whole time I was in NYC and it was so wonderful to have a comfortable shoe that went with every outfit.
Perhaps it is because of my recent sneaker obsession that I thought to myself “I need to up my socks game”. I absolutely love these frilly socks from Free People. I have two pairs and would love to buy more. Good news for everyone is that they are on sale. I also purchased some gold rings that have since sold out. But this ring and this ring are similar to what I got. I usually wear silver rings but opt for gold earrings and necklaces. I have yet to decide if I am a silver or a gold girlie, but I figured having gold rings would help me decide.
My one “splurge” item for the month was this gorgeous heart shaped crossbody bag from Kate Spade. I was hunting for a heart shaped bag on Poshmark and ThredUp, but finally found exactly what I was looking for on the Kate Spade Outlet site. Kate Spade is one of my favorite brands and I’ve bought from this site before. I am so happy I have this purse in my possession! It is so cute and quirky, and I based an entire photoshoot around it this month.
To wrap up January, I purchased a few things from Ulta. I saw a TikTok from fashion model Emily DiDonato about her favorite lip and blush combo, and I knew I had to try it out. I am not easily influenced by random strangers on the internet, but this combo really caught my eye and I was excited to try something different. I usually go for more pink/rose blushes, but this deep red blush (shade “You Had Me At Merlot”) looked so good on her that I immediately opened an Ulta tab. You are probably already aware that I am a big red lipstick gal, so I am always willing to try new brands and shades to see what else is out there. This Clinique “Fuller Fig” lip pencil is much more subtle on me than Emily, but does not discourage me from wearing it. If anything, it is probably my perfect lip shade, especially for more casual days.
Since I already had a tab open, I decided to finally buy the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen. I had gotten a sample of this back in December with a Sephora order and I was so excited to buy it. Wearing sunscreen everyday was one of my New Year’s resolutions but I all of the other sunscreens I have tried were really oily and slimy. With the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen, I actually look forward to putting it on everyday. It really feels like nothing is there and it goes on so seamlessly. I can’t recommend this product enough!
And finally, just so I could get free shipping at Ulta, I bought one of those silk pillow cases. While it is very nice and comfortable, I think this was a waste of money because I rarely ever sleep at my own house anymore. If there are long term benefits to this silk pillow case, I would need to start bringing it to my girlfriend’s house so I can actually start reaping those benefits.
February:
I definitely did more shopping in February than January, but that took place mainly in the form of thrifting. Because I am a #ThredUpAmbassador, I get money for posting about ThredUp on IG every month. Since I am such a mega pro-thrifting person and try to get the majority of my clothes via thrifting, it makes it harder to post links on the blog of these items. However, for the sake of this post, I will make a list of everything I got from ThredUp this month:
- red leggings (clearly I’m a big RED girlie atm)
- 2 sundresses (one from Abercrombie, one of J.Crew)
- 2 button down shirts (my goal is to cut them both in half and sew them together)
- a pair of jeans (I am considering returning these since they are a tighter fit than I expected)
- 8 plain tshirts (yes… you heard that right, 8! My current hyperfixation is using some left over fabric I have from making masks in 2020 to make baby tees for myself and my friends. I just need to bring out my sewing machine so I can actually finish them.)
- 1 crewneck sweatshirt (this is for a gift for a friend)
This month I also went antiquing and thrifting in-person with my girlfriend. We went to one of my favorite Antique Shops in Catonsville, MD called “Objects Found” where I found a lovely black fur coat (mob wife is in right now, right?), a red cord phone for some photographs I want to take and a small, pink mini fridge that I store my La Croix cans in at my gf’s house. And then, when we were in NYC, we went to Buffalo Exchange in Brooklyn. I bought a pair of jeans, a sweater vest, some silver hoop earrings and a bowling shirt that says “howdy”.
To wrap up February, I bought a few items from Sephora. All month I was chatting about skincare with two of my best friends, Cori and Autumn, and we were sharing products we liked and disliked. I love to say that Cori and Autumn are my favorite influencers, so the things that I bought were solely based on their recommendations. I want to make a separate blog post of my current skincare routine, but I will include some links below to what I purchased this month.
That’s a wrap for January and February! I am eyeing a bunch of clothes, shoes and accessories for spring, but I am trying to curb that since I need to buy all new tires for my car. But of course, if I do many exciting purchases, you can come back to the blog to hear about it.
Thanks for reading! xx
