Oysters. You either love them or hate. I consider myself to be a casual enjoyer (“I’ll have one or two if you want to order some!”), but recently, I had the pleasure of visiting Glidden Point Oyster Farm in Edgecomb, ME for a formal oyster tasting and tour. A few weeks ago, Maggie’s mom shared an article with us from the NYT titled “Slurping Toward Nirvana on the Maine Oyster Trail”. Since Maggie’s parents were coming up to Maine for her birthday, we all decided to embark on tour of Glidden Point. It was educational, fascinating and most importantly… delicious! Shoutout to our fabulous guide, Althea, who was also featured in the NYT article. #localceleb

The tour kicks off with a quick lesson on how Glidden Point started, how they harvest their oysters and answering a lot of questions about oysters in general. (Turns out I know nothing about oysters).

During the tour, you actually get to go down to the dock where oystermen + oysterwomen are harvesting and shucking oysters. You can look around and watch, as long as you stay out of their way 🙂

Once you’re done exploring the docks, you are given two oysters to shuck yourself and try.

Turns out I am awful at shucking oysters, so I had to call in reinforcements (Maggie).

They had some delightful NA options and we also tried the classic New England Clam Chowder.

I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Coastal Maine this summer! This was such a lovely side-quest on our way to Acadia for Maggie’s birthday. If you’re looking to learn more about Oysters in Maine, or just enjoy a few cold ones with the boys, go check out Glidden Point Oyster Farm!
Thanks for reading! xx
This Oyster Farm needs to use your write up and pictures for marketing! Had I known of this place I would have taken Raul for sure when we were in Maine last year. He LOVES oysters and set his personal record of eating 49 in one sitting! He had 48 another day during the trip, so when he told the waitress she offered to bring him one more to make the 49.
