Over the weekend I went to my first Oktoberfest with a few girlfriends Kalen and Melissa in Vienna, Virginia. My Oma was sooooo proud of me for embracing my German culture. I definitely need to invest in a dirndl (the girl version of lederhosen) but for now I’ll stick with this sweater-skirt-booties combo. It’s October but it still gets up to 80 degrees most days. I can’t wait for it to actually feel like fall! I thrive in sweater weather. I’ve worn this sweater in a previous blog post from last year, but since it was hot as balls over the weekend, I changed up the look a little.
Favorite Fall Colors
It’s officially fall, my favorite season. It’s been raining non-stop in Maryland for the past few weeks, but the humidity has subsided so nights are getting cooler. I finally switched out all the summer clothes in my closet for my fall/winter clothes, so even if the weather isn’t in total agreement, I have transitioned to autumn. I have a lot of fall blog ideas I’m excited to share, but I wanted to start off with 3 colors that I’m literally obsessed with right now. Every time I’ve gone shopping in the last few weeks I was on the hunt for these fall colors. I hope after this post you will see why.
23rd Birthday Brunch
“Nobody likes you when you’re 23“… fortunately I know thats not the case because I just had the loveliest birthday brunch with some of my best friends. Today on this September 24th, I am officially 23 years old. I just had the best weekend hanging out with my twin brother Chris, little brother Johnny and best friend Allison down by the water in Southern Maryland where the twin just moved. Then Allison and I drove home super early Sunday morning for this wonderful potluck brunch. Brunch is absolutely my favorite meal of the day, so it was a no brainer this is how I wanted to celebrate. I’m so lucky to have such amazing friends so close to home. I’m not sure what 23 has in store for me but if it is anything like this weekend, this is going to be a spectacular year.
Finally Wearing My Glasses
Did I ever tell you about that time I was a second semester senior and I lost my only pair of glasses 6 weeks before graduation? It was awful. Technically I don’t need glasses all day everyday, but they definitely help me see far away for instances like reading the board or driving. So this was a total bummer. I was so convinced I would find them by the time I moved out of my college home, but to no avail. For months I had friends telling me “Kim, you really need to go get new glasses” over and over again. It wasn’t until this summer when I actually listened to them and made a new eye doctor appointment. I got my eyes checked, dilated…the whole cha-bang. I really wasn’t a fan of the style glasses at my eye doctor’s office, so I went hunting online for a cheaper and more stylin’ pair of specs. This pair was the outcome and this is one of the first times I’m actually wearing them for an extended period of time. This can be explained below.
Hey ma, look! I’m wearing my glasses!
Striped Two Piece Jumpsuit
So even though its after Labor Day, I have a hard time with that “not wearing white” rule because I own a lot of white. I took these pictures when I was at the beach a few weeks ago and almost forgot about them. I’m posting this outfit now because this weekend I’m going to Dewey Beach, DE to celebrate one of my friend’s birthdays and I think I’m going to wear this. I know this outfit looks extremely similar to the outfit in my last blog post, but what can I say…a girl knows what she likes.
Big Cork Winery + Appreciating This Stage Of Life
Over the weekend, I decided to go to a wine festival very last minute at Big Cork Winery in Rohrersville, MD. I was not planning to go to this event after a night out drinking with the girls. But when two of my best friends, Allison and Jess, both coincidently figured out they were both going in different groups, I decided to tag along. It was very impromptu since I was hungover and didn’t have any decent clothes or make-up with me. I was already 45 minutes from home after sleeping over at Jess’s the night before, but Allison let me borrow some make-up and Jess let me borrow this matching set from American Eagle. I’m obsessed with it! I got so many compliments on it and its so comfortable and flattering on my body. Plus the wine festival was so fun! There was a wine tasting, food trucks and three different cover bands. I sat on the lawn with Allison and Jess drinking wine on a warm, sunny and beautiful day. This winery is located in the mountains and everything was so picturesque. I can’t wait to go back.
There was something that Allison said to me while we were listening to one of the cover bands and drinking Moscato that really resinated with me. She said “Just think, if we were still in college we wouldn’t have been able to come to this today”. And its true because we would be on the Eastern Shore 3 hours away gearing up for our first day of school if we were still in college. Last week I wrote this post about missing college and some thoughts I had on that. But I think after this weekend I’m starting to appreciate this stage of my life and where I am now.
Hamilton at the Kennedy Center
I may be 3 years late to this, but I finally saw Hamilton! You may not know this about me, but I was a HUGE theatre kid in high school. Like I was in six different productions, spent around 75% of my time in the auditorium and would randomly burst into song or applause at a moments notice. I was a full on drama nerd. I loved it. Its been a few years since I’ve seen a broadway show so when my friend, Amanda, asked me to go see Hamilton at The Kennedy Center with her, I got so excited! Amanda and I did a bunch of shows together in high school (she’s a real star). Tickets were very expensive but the show was absolutely incredible (like I knew it would be). It was so hard not to sing along the entire time and I 1000% cried my eyes out in the second act. Tickets aren’t totally sold out yet for The Kennedy Center, so if you live near DC, grab them and go see the show!
J.Crew Summer Stripes
Apparently because its August and a bunch of schools are starting up in a week or two, that means summer is over. Apparently. But between you and me…I refuse to believe summer is over until the leaves change. Most times fall isn’t even initiated unless school has started but I’m not returning to school so I guess summer is forever? So that’s why I’m excited to share this summer outfit today on the blog. I think it could pass for a “first day of school” outfit if your dress code is pretty mild…but I’m done with school so #cantrelate. Details below!Read More >>
Lavender Maxi Dress
In the wake of my post vacation tan, I thought I would share these pictures I took with my cousin and little brother the other day during a beautiful Bethany Beach sunset. I have wanted a lavender dress similar to this for so long…probably since Taylor Swift released her “Begin Again” in like 2012 (I think). She wore this beautiful lavender gown on the rooftops of Paris and it literally looks like a daydream. So when I stumbled upon this dress on Hope’s website, I got so excited and bought it that same day. Here are some pictures of me spinning like a girl in a brand new dress.
Black and White Beach Outfit
I’m currently working on my tan at the beach with my family. Every other year we spend a week at Bethany Beach with my cousins and its always a loud, rowdy, good time. Even though my tan lines are super noticeable in this outfit, I low key love tan lines because they prove that I’m tanner than I was before. (Anyone else like this?) I surprisingly haven’t gotten burned yet, so I figured now was a good chance to show off this outfit. I love wearing high-waisted soft shorts because I have big thighs and a little tummy pouch. Soft shorts like this don’t squeeze too tight and they look super flattering (especially on the hips and tummy). I’m on vacation, so of course I want to be comfortable, show off my tan and look cute on the beach. I think this outfit pretty much sums it all up (tan lines and all)!
