I am so excited for the next 13 days! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I’ve been hardcore planning all of these posts for weeks now. First up for my 13 Posts of Halloween: Decades costumes! In this post I provide links and tips for simple and easy Halloween costumes for the 1920s, 1950s, 1970s and 1980s. Hope you like them!
Hamilton at the Kennedy Center
I may be 3 years late to this, but I finally saw Hamilton! You may not know this about me, but I was a HUGE theatre kid in high school. Like I was in six different productions, spent around 75% of my time in the auditorium and would randomly burst into song or applause at a moments notice. I was a full on drama nerd. I loved it. Its been a few years since I’ve seen a broadway show so when my friend, Amanda, asked me to go see Hamilton at The Kennedy Center with her, I got so excited! Amanda and I did a bunch of shows together in high school (she’s a real star). Tickets were very expensive but the show was absolutely incredible (like I knew it would be). It was so hard not to sing along the entire time and I 1000% cried my eyes out in the second act. Tickets aren’t totally sold out yet for The Kennedy Center, so if you live near DC, grab them and go see the show!
Life Update:
Happy weekend! I am so relieved this week is over but I can’t believe its already August. I kinda feel like I‘m in a perpetual state of summer because I don’t have to go back to school at the end of the month. It will probably hit me more that I am no longer a student when September starts, lets just enjoy the time being. For now, its August and it’s been a while since I’ve done a life update. So here are the basics to what I’ve been up to lately.
Shows I’m Currently Watching
I’ll be the first to admit I am a very passive TV watcher. I think its even a stretch to say that I even watch TV because whenever the TV is on I’m usually on my phone, on my computer, doing laundry, cleaning and basically doing anything besides watching the TV. I know it irks so many people but I prefer to look at it as “multitasking”. Even as I’m writing this now I have a show playing in the background that I keep having to rewind back to because I keep missing things. Oops. So technically I’m like halfway through a bunch of shows right now. I usually binge watch a show for a few days, get distracted then start a new show before finishing the other one. I just got an Amazon Firestick for the TV in my room so I have access to Amazon Prime Video, Hulu and Netflix. So while I am probably the worst TV watcher ever, this is what I’m watching.
Why I Love My Small School
As a senior with only a few weeks left before I graduate, I wanted to share my experience at my small, in-state school. When I started at Salisbury, I hardcore did not want to be here. To be honest, I felt inadequate going to a small D3 school compared to my friends who were going to very far and very big schools. But now as I prepare myself to graduate and look back on the last four years, I can’t picture myself at any other school. I’ve really seen myself become a leader on this campus in so many ways and I have been able to do and experience so much here. Now this isn’t supposed to be a post where I knock other schools. I’m making this blog post for anyone who felt like me when they were low key forced to go a smaller school or a school that wasn’t their top choice (thanks mom and dad). I think there are so many perks to going to a smaller school and I definitely think you can find happiness where ever you are!
Deliriums: My Acting Debut
This semester has been incredibly busy and crazy for me. One of the main reasons for this was being in my first student film. It is called “Deliriums” and it was for a Moving Making class that I’m not actually in. I auditioned for it and surprisingly got one of the main roles! I wanted to be a part of this movie because I used to do theatre in high school and really missed acting and playing a role different from myself. The picture above is from the premiere a few days ago where I watched the movie for the first time. It was so weird seeing the scenes that I did over and over and over again all come together in the final product. I’ll admit I was a little shy when I was on scene because I can be pretty critical of myself. Overall, I am so happy I was a part of this movie and I wanted to share that on my blog!
Life Update: What I’m Thankful For
I feel like I am running so behind on this blog. Both school and work have picked up so much for me in the last few weeks. I probably have at least 7 unfinished drafts in my WordPress just waiting for me to finish and post. So thats one of the reasons I am happy to be on break-I finally have some time to sit down and focus on something I love to do. Currently, I’m sitting in my old high school sweatpants on my couch with my new dog, Sadie, watching Elf. My parents are finishing up the dishes in the kitchen and my brothers are somewhere else in the house, napping for the third time today. My Oma and Tante Helga are here for Thanksgiving today and they are both hilarious and wonderful cooks. This morning, my brothers and I ran a 5K and let me tell you…I suck. Like both of my brothers beat me by at least 6 minutes. But hey, at least I did it. Then I got to take nap #1. After that we ate Thanksgiving “dinner” at like 2:30 p.m. and then nap #2. We’re a big napping family if you didn’t already pick up on that. Later tonight I’m going to go see some of my best friends and then hit up the mall for some Black Friday shopping. So as I’m sitting here watching this holiday classic, I figured I would knock out a post about what I’m thankful for.
What’s in my Bag?
Today I want to share everything I carry around with me whenever I leave the house. Besides the obvious things I need with me (like my phone, keys and wallet), here are my essentials that I like to have on me to make me look like I have my life together.
Life Update
So I haven’t been posting as often as I used to for a lot of reasons. Since I was in Alabama, these past few weeks have been me trying to get my life together here at school. Here is what I’ve been up to and what I’m looking forward to:
Roll Tide Roll
I’m currently sitting in the Birmingham airport, reminiscing about how unbelievable this weekend was. I got to sit in the student section of Bryant-Denny Stadium and cheer on the Crimson Tide for the first time ever. I don’t think I’ll ever get that opportunity again, so I really tried to soak it in. They played/destroyed Ole Miss (66-3). The entire atmosphere of Tuscaloosa is crazy the day of a game and the energy of the stadium is mind-blowing. If you ever get the chance to upgrade your tickets at an Alabama game, DO IT! All of the students get a little pom-pom and sing along to the fight song and “Sweet Home Alabama”. Everyone dresses for the occasion, so I’m still seeing red, but I also have a lot of new outfit ideas. Here are some pictures Kalen, Melissa and I took of our game day outfits while we sold parking at Kalen’s house (she lives like 3 blocks from the stadium). We all spent hours cutting up shirts and swapping clothes trying to find a perfect game day outfit. I was pretty hype about mine, almost as hype as I was to be there for the game. I haven’t mastered the fight song yet, but hopefully by next time I’ll have it down.
