I am very anxious about this next decade. There are so many questions that send me spiraling. Am I gonna get married, am I gonna have kids, am I gonna move out, where will I move out to, can I make new friends, can I keep my old friends, who’s still gonna be around, who won’t be… And I freak myself out because a lot can happen in a year and even more can happen in a decade. It’s normal to make goals and have hopes for the next few years to come, but for the next decade of my life? I don’t even know where to start.

So it’s taken me a while to write this post out just because I’ve had a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that it’s a new year. As exciting as that is, I was overwhelmed with work and catching up from the holidays for the last 2 weeks. I’ve been thinking about how I want 2020 to differ from 2019. I used to make resolutions and lots of lists of things I wanted to improve on, but that’s never fully worked out for me. But a trend I’ve seen on Instagram and Twitter lately is picking a one word theme for the whole year. I also got the inspiration to make this post after reading my insta-friend Taylor’s blog here (she has some great posts about one word resolutions) and she is just so intentional and sweet as can be! So after giving this some thought over the last few weeks, I’ve decided my word for 2020 is ‘unapologetic’.

So last week I made the impromptu decision to delete the 3 social media apps I use the most- Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat. I had a really bad cold at the time so I was resting and didn’t just want to be on my phone all day. I thought it was just going to be for the weekend while I was recovering but I really wanted to challenge myself to last a week. I’ve always wanted to take a step back from social media to see how I felt about not being as ‘in the know’ as I usually am and what would happen to my blog Instagram if I wasn’t posting or engaging at all. If you’ve ever wanted to take a break from social media, here are some thoughts I had during my week long social media break to give you a heads up on what you can expect:

Happy 2020 everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful and safe New Years Eve. My friends and I threw a Gatsby themed house party and it was so fun! This is the third 1920s themed party I’ve thrown in my life and I now feel obligated to continue the trend until 2030. I love dressing up in 1920s flapper attire and I love it when my friends dress up with me (usually I’m on my own with the whole ‘playing dress-up’ thing). I rented this gorgeous sequin dress from Rent the Runway and brought out my old Daisy headband from my Gatsby party a few years ago. More pics and some similar dresses are below!

Maybe it’s not my weekend, but it’s gonna be my year.
I think I’ve been singing those lyrics to myself every NYE since I was 13. Honestly 2020 snuck up on me big time. I’m throwing a Gatsby themed party tomorrow with some friends and I haven’t even gotten everything I need to decorate for it. We’re entering a new decade which is very exciting because I can only imagine all of the exciting things that will happen in my life in the next 10 years, but at the same time, the thought completely overwhelms me. So rather than think super big picture about anything, I’ve decided to make a quick post about the basics of what I really need to enjoy my New Years Eve tomorrow and 3 simple steps I can do in the next few days before I make a precise list of resolutions or goals for the year.

Woah. What a year. Definitely some ups and some downs but that’s pretty typical for any year. Either way, I like to focus on the positives. Below I have listed 10 of my favorite things that happened this year. In no particular order might I add, other than maybe chronologically… But all of these events are highlights of my year.

I have such a love for the Roaring 20’s so you can probably guess my excitement for all of us to be entering a new 20’s era. I really enjoyed reading The Great Gatsby in high school and that quickly turned into a love for F. Scott Fitzgerald, his work and his love story with this wife Zelda. I’ve thrown two 1920’s themed parties already in my life and I’m about to throw a third on NYE. I’m actually not wearing this outfit but I seriously love this look. This gorgeous sequin cowl neck, high slit midi dress is a rental from Rent the Runway and everything else I already owned (which is a pic win for me). Roaring 1920’s fashion is something I really admire and I hope I embodied that in this outfit. If you’re attending a Gatsby NYE party this week, you’ve stumbled upon a great post. If you scroll down, you’ll find some 1920s appropriate party captions for Instagram and some more pictures of me looking like a true flapper girl (so basically, in my happiest state).

Be honest, is there such a thing as too much sparkle for New Years Eve? I don’t think so. Here is the last post in a series of NYE dress inspirations for you. Sequins are such a classic stable of NYE and I love anything that sparkles. I wore this dress to the reputation Stadium Tour and this blazer is from Rent the Runway. I linked more sequin options below that you can totally run out to the store and try to find!

Not totally into a lot of sparkle on NYE? No worries! This post is all about a less glitzy material that is still super festive and comfortable. I wore this dress for a Kimberkopy and am so glad I have found another use for it. A long dress on NYE is a whole new level of elegant, but I have also found some shorter versions that definitely come across as more subtle. I do love a good cocktail dress though…

I love a little razzle dazzle around the holidays. New Years Eve is the perfect time to dress to the nines in all the glitz and glamour, and I would be happy to give you some inspiration for a dress for that night. It is only a few days before NYE so the option of ordering something and having it shipped to your house may be out of the question, but if you’re driving the struggle bus on what to wear and feel like rushing to the stores for a dress, allow me to provide some inspiration below.
