Biggest perk of going to school on the Eastern Shore? Being a stones throw away from the beach. Ok…thats an exaggeration, but in the last few weeks I have driven to Ocean City twice even though its been crazy cold and windy. I would like to emphasize the word “windy” in this post because my hair literally had a mind of its own and is absolutely outrageous. Every single picture gives me the urge to brush my hair.
What’s in my Bag?
Today I want to share everything I carry around with me whenever I leave the house. Besides the obvious things I need with me (like my phone, keys and wallet), here are my essentials that I like to have on me to make me look like I have my life together.
Red Red Wine
Yesterday Allison and I took a spontaneous trip to a local vineyard 30 minutes from our house called Layton’s Chance. This is such a hidden treasure on the Eastern Shore. The weather was so perfect and autumn-y. We did a wine tasting (which only ended up being around $10) and then got a tour of the grounds. I’ve always wanted to take a vineyard tour, because I never really understood everything that goes into making wine. If you live near Vienna, MD, I would highly recommend checking out this adorable vineyard. Their wine is delicious and everything is locally grown. They have a lot of fun events coming up, so I definitely plan on going back.
Look What You Made Me Wear: Halloween Costume
Maybe I got mine, but you’ll all get yours…
If you don’t already know, I am whole-heartedly obsessed with Taylor Swift. I’ve been a diehard Swiftie since I was 14 and “Fearless” was released. I’ve gone to three of her concerts and absolutely lose my mind when she releases a new album. (Fun fact: She followed me on Tumblr 3 years ago!) So when she finally came off of hiatus and dropped “Look What You Made Me Do” I totally geeked. When I saw the music video, I thought it was totally genius and a visionary masterpiece. The scene where Taylor is robbing a streaming corporation particularly stuck out to me because of the lines “The world moves on another day another drama (drama)/ but not for me, not for me all I think about is karma/ And then the world moves on but one things for sure/ Maybe I got mine, but you’ll all get yours.” YASSS PETTY TAYLOR AHHHH! I thought the Louboutin over-the-knee boots and the sequin Gucci hoodie in that part of the video were totally extra and such a unique pairing. The actual outfit she wore is worth like $5,000, but I did think I could dress up like this without completely breaking the bank. So here is how I created my Taylor Swift look for Halloween on a budget.
PumpKIM Patch
Great news: my phone now autocorrects the word “pumpkin” to “pumpKIM”. This is the second pumpkin patch I’ve been this October. My roommates and I decided we needed a pumpkin for our house, but unfortunately, someone stole it off our front porch 3 days after we bought it. We’re debating getting another, because I would still really like to carve one before Halloween is officially over. So here, enjoy these pictures of me holding different colored pumpkins, taking obnoxious pictures with my roommates (who I love a lot), remembering the great pumpkin that we lost. RIP Great Pumpkin.
Autumn Wine Festival Outfit
I just had the best weekend when I attended the 15th Annual Autumn Wine Festival. I was able to walk around and enjoy various vendors and sample some quality wines. While that was the whole point of the festival, the part I enjoyed the most was volunteering and pouring samples of wine for the Olney Winery. Because I was a volunteer, I got free entry into the festival, a free bottle of wine and got to meet so many hilarious and fun people. The entire time I was pouring samples I was making friends and cracking jokes with everyone who came up. The Olney Winery employees are an absolute blast and made volunteering a complete joy, even when I got stung by a bee. After the festival was over on the first day, all of the employees and volunteers went out for pizza at one of my favorite places. The next day was even crazier than the last and we sold so many bottles, we were practically cleared out. I really hope I get to volunteer and work for them in the future. I don’t know a lot about wine, but I do know that people who love wine are my kind of people.
Black Magic
One of the biggest perks of living in a rural area is that there are plenty of pumpkin patches all over town. One my way home from school, I probably pass at least 15 pumpkin patches and farms. So this is just the first pumpkin patch I have visited so far this season. I’m really glad I got to wear this crochet dress because its been hanging in my closet untouched for probably over a year. I usually save it for around Halloween because if I had to call it something, I would call it my “Wiccan dress”. Like doesn’t it seem like the only thing missing is a boiling cauldron, a broomstick and a black pointed hat? Personally, I’m all about it and I’ll probably use this dress as a back up Halloween costume if I end up needing it.
Life Update
So I haven’t been posting as often as I used to for a lot of reasons. Since I was in Alabama, these past few weeks have been me trying to get my life together here at school. Here is what I’ve been up to and what I’m looking forward to:
Orange You Glad I Wore This
It’s finally sweater weather here in Maryland and I am thrilled. Fall is my favorite season and this is probably my favorite sweater I own. With the open back and ribbed trim, sweaters like this always give off a soft and cozy vibe, which I live for. I have been a huge fan of the “burnt orange” color since last year. I just think its quintessential fall and looks great with the changing leaves. I always wear this sweater with my cowboy booties which I’ve had since high school. The design on the boots goes really well with the orange sweater and adds a fun touch.
I also took pictures of my friend, Jess who matched the burnt orange with a nice dusty peach color. Jess and I had a nice little photoshoot the other day and then went out to lunch. She’s starting a blog that will be up and running in Winter 2018 and I’m so excited to go blogging adventures with her!
Roll Tide Roll
I’m currently sitting in the Birmingham airport, reminiscing about how unbelievable this weekend was. I got to sit in the student section of Bryant-Denny Stadium and cheer on the Crimson Tide for the first time ever. I don’t think I’ll ever get that opportunity again, so I really tried to soak it in. They played/destroyed Ole Miss (66-3). The entire atmosphere of Tuscaloosa is crazy the day of a game and the energy of the stadium is mind-blowing. If you ever get the chance to upgrade your tickets at an Alabama game, DO IT! All of the students get a little pom-pom and sing along to the fight song and “Sweet Home Alabama”. Everyone dresses for the occasion, so I’m still seeing red, but I also have a lot of new outfit ideas. Here are some pictures Kalen, Melissa and I took of our game day outfits while we sold parking at Kalen’s house (she lives like 3 blocks from the stadium). We all spent hours cutting up shirts and swapping clothes trying to find a perfect game day outfit. I was pretty hype about mine, almost as hype as I was to be there for the game. I haven’t mastered the fight song yet, but hopefully by next time I’ll have it down.
